On the way home from our “camping trip from hell” last summer, we had planned to stop at the New River Gorge in WV and the Tri-Cities region of Tennessee (Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol) but had to skip both due to my broken ankle. Nine months later we were on our way! First stop was River Falls at the Gorge campground in north Georgia to celebrate my birthday. Nothing better than being with family on special occasions. The weather prediction was a washout weekend however, even though we could not escape the rain, there were plenty of dry hours to have fun. We had a great time eating, painting, campfires, and of course drinking!
Next stop was our campground in Jonesborough, named the oldest city in Tennessee. We had booked a campsite right on the river, but the rain had moved north so we had to move closer in. While here we visited the Tennessee Hills Distillery. This was a pretty cool little place! Tasting was fun, so many different flavors (dark roast, pecan pie, lemon drop, coconut, and pineapple upside down cake).
“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Next stop - we made it back to the New River Gorge so I could do the Bridge Climb! It was cool being almost 900 feet above the river, the scenery in this area is absolutely beautiful! There was a 24 inch catwalk to walk along, about 25 feet below the road above us. The bridge shuttered every time a truck rode over it. It was super windy up there, but a very fun time!
