There's more to be seen than can ever be seen...
We "planned" our trip for the last five years but, there was no plan. Our method of
travel was a general direction with zero specifics. As a result, we stayed in some
"Motel 6" campgrounds as well as some "Five Star" campgrounds. We got stuck a
few times and even spent some nights in a WalMart parking lot. The places we've
seen, the people we've met, and the fun times we've had gave us GREAT
memories of our 13,282 mile, two month journey across our beautiful country. We'll
always remember trying to outrun the remnants of Gustav, "learning" the ins and
outs of setting up and breaking down camp (we must have been very entertaining
to other campers the first few weeks), eating dinner out of a garbage pail lid, Yargo
the "unhappy camper", the beginnings of Pony Express, Roseman covered bridge,
Dick disrupting cable service at a Wyoming campground, Georgia beating South
Carolina, doing laundry, the Four Presidents, three days of no phone service, no
Internet, no TV in Yellowstone National Park, geysers, mud pools, buffalo, elk,
mountain goats, Dick's experiment on the Continental Divide, the edge of Logan
Pass, Georgia beating Arizona, Yargo riding the ferry, fight over $20 in quarters to
do more laundry, beautiful Vancouver Island, amazing beauty of Butchart Gardens,
Neil Diamond concert, sand dunes and seals on the Oregon coast, elitist
Oregonians, Pearson candy bars, reports of no gas in Atlanta, Georgia having
"their ____ handed to them" by Alabama, $4.39/gallon for gas, walking across the
Golden Gate bridge, same China town restaurant 30 years later for Dick, dinner
with Sarah, Yargo starting to like camping, Sonora Pass at 9600 ft in the snow and
pitch black dark, Estie, Estie, Estie, rainbows on Lake Tahoe, steaks, park ranger
escort through tunnels, HooDoos, getting sick from drinking water in Arizona, finally
getting it that petrified trees really are like ceramic, listening to Rush when we were
on the move, dead battery, blowing all over the road in northern Arizona, Georgia
beating Tennessee, Sudoku puzzles, great food in Santa Fe, Bonny's ranch, Yargo
being chased by horses, Texas BBQ for dinner SEVEN days in a row, adding
states to our camper sticker map, German food, $2.21/gallon for gas, Georgia
beating Vanderbilt, Purple Pig, Yargo finally having fun swimming in the lake,
Happy Hour at Betty's RV Park with homemade gumbo and great political debates
with the other RVers, no campground bathrooms means having to use the camper
toilet and shower..., eating Cajun food until we were going to bust, Live Oak trees,
Georgia beating LSU, beauty of Santa Rosa beach, seeing the "Welcome to
Georgia" sign on our return, visiting Gerald in Thomasville, and of course, our
arrival back to our log house. It was bitter sweet returning - great to be home but
already missing our fun adventures.
Time to start planning our next trip. Looking forward to Nova Scotia next summer!!
